Zayda Pena Killed
 From Mexico comes the news that the singer Zayda Pena has been killed.Zayda Pena, 28, was shot in a hotel room in Matamoros. She was with a friend who died instantly of gunshot wounds. Zayda, however, survived and was rushed to hospital where, unbelievably, she was shot again and this time it proved to be fatal. Zayda (sometimes Zaida) was a mainly ballad singer of folk music and headed a group called Zayda y los Culpables (Zayda and the Guilty Ones).  It is possible that this was gang warfare as the genre of music that Zayda sings is often about guns and drug trafficking.At least six others performers involved in this sort of music have been killed in Mexico within the last eighteen months.
